Toro Magazine (is that still around?) has posted an interview with Toronto-based electronic artist Egyptrixx (a.k.a. David Psutka). Here’s what he has to say about Tdot’s electronic/dance music scene:
Does Toronto have an identifiable sound, comparable to the London electronic/dance music scene?
Definitely not. I wasn’t around in the ‘90s for the drum-and-bass thing, which I hear was good, but no. London is much bigger, with a much bigger appreciative attitude toward the art of club music. Toronto has no apparatus or infrastructure for a scene to grow around – venues, book agencies, labels, that sort of thing. It’s a complex answer. I don’t think journalists treat electronic music the way they do in the U.K. We don’t have the promoters, or agencies that support artists and allow them to develop a profile.
But it’s not a bad thing. In Toronto, you have a really eclectic group of musicians, everyone is doing something different. I think the reason for that diversity is because we don’t have a flagship venue, or label that everyone is trying to sound like.
Is that true, do you think? Is there really no such thing as a distinctive Toronto sound?

A glimpse of what we did and saw in Miami during the Music week and the Ultra Music Festival.

So many great moments from this year’s Ultra Music Festival in Miami! Bob Sinclar at the Pacha Ibiza Classics Pool Party was an absolute standout. An amazing time at the Shelborne in South Beach — with Pete Tong and DJ Jazzy Jeff, too!
