March 30th, 2013

Tom Swoon & Amba Shepherd – Not Too Late: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Polish DJ/producer Tom Swoon teams up with vocalist Amba Shepherd to deliver this thrilling slice of progressive house goodness. Shepherd’s alluring, trance-like vocals mesh exquisitely with the rhythm on a track that’s custom-designed to drive the crowds absolutely wild at outdoor festivals. Which, by the way, is it summer yet? This one put me in an ecstatic daze, and I’m willing to bet it does the same for you.

Incidentally, you’ll want to check out the Bassnectar & PatrickReza dubstep remix as well as Maor Levi’s electro house version — both highly successful remixes!

Gosia’s Track of the Day: Bang La Decks, “Kuedon (Obsession)” (Leroy Styles Remix)

March 14th, 2013

Bang La Decks – Kuedon (Obsession) [Leroy Styles Remix]: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

This track gets a whole “Arabian nights” vibe going, and the rhythm is an obsession for me. The buildups and drops had my heart dancing in unison with the insistent drumbeat. This is one I can see creating chaos at clubs and a full-on frenzy at festivals. While the original track is more than satisfactory, it’s the Leroy Styles remix that really has me hooked. The music video (below) is a bit questionable. I was fairly mind-boggled — at least until the twist ending.

Gosia’s Track of the Day: Paul Oakenfold & Matt Goss – The Concrete Sneakers: “Touch The Sky”

March 13th, 2013

Paul Oakenfold & Matt Goss | The Concrete Sneakers – Touch The Sky: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Following up on their 2010 collab “Firefly,” trance legend Paul Oakenfold and vocalist Matt Goss from Eighties Britpop outfit Bros (Hey, remember Bros? Anyone? Hello?) have teamed up again on this enrapturing new track. The release includes three remixes; all are superb, but my fave is by Faustix & Imanos. Just try and sit still when this one comes on! The buildup and drops are sure to drive any club or festival crowd into an animalistic frenzy.

The lyrics on “Touch The Sky” could serve as a manifesto for the EDM movement: “If you wanna feel love / Just feel / Let’s unite / Come and touch the sky / Raise your hands and try to feel the light / All around the world, around the world / Let’s unite.”

Paul Oakenfold’s Web site lists a number of upcoming shows in the US, but I’m waiting anxiously for him to bring his sound back to Toronto. For info on shows and to buy tickets, GO HERE.

Don’t forget to check out Oakenfold’s weekly Planet Perfecto radio show and podcast HERE.

Sander van Doorn – Drink To Get Drunk: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Why drink when you can get drunk on 2011 masterpiece from Dutch progressive house maestro from Dutch DJ and producer SANDER VAN DOORN? The vocals are perfection, the beat hypnotizing — and I just about busted the repeat button on this one. Proost!

Gosia’s Track of the Day: Alex Metric, “Prophecies”

March 4th, 2013

Alex Metric – Prophecies: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Released in December on Skrillex‘s OWSLA imprint, this electro house track starts out mellow but builds steadily to an intriguing transition. Barely a minute in, I was hooked — and so was my entire body. Everything around me vanished, and no distraction was strong enough to pull me out of the spell and back onto boringly solid ground. Yes, it’s that hypnotizing. A stellar showcase for UK producer and DJ Alex Metric‘s unique, alluring production style.

February 27th, 2013

Sidney Samson and Martin Garrix – Torrent: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Sidney Samson teams up here with fellow Dutchman Martin Garrix to deliver a serious electro house banger! “Torrent” starts alluringly, with a nice kick providing the foreplay. Then the passion kicks in, as body and soul alike are swept away in the musical flood. The build-ups are satisfying, and the drops go beyond all expectations.  The latest triumph in what is already shaping up to be a banner year for EDM, “Torrent” is one track I can guarantee you’ll be hearing a lot at clubs and festivals in the months ahead.

Gosia’s Track of the Day: Oliver Smith, “Pressure”

February 21st, 2013

Oliver Smith – Pressure: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Having earned an endorsement from Armin van Buuren, and extravagant praise from such publications as Mixmag (“the best thing to happen in trance”) and  DJ Magazine (“sensational”), British trance and progressive house artist Oliver Smith is clearly making an enviable name for himself on the EDM scene. His newest track, “Pressure,” is well worthy of release on the prestigious Anjunabeats imprint. The opening of this track is so euphoric – so harmonious, so pleasing to the senses — it makes the perfect musical panacea. With releases like this dropping just weeks into 2013, this year is promising to be a stellar one for EDM.

Gosia’s Track of the Day: Flux Pavilion, “Blow The Roof”

February 19th, 2013

Flux Pavilion – Blow The Roof: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

English dubstep producer and DJ Joshua Steele (known professionally as Flux Pavilion) is one artist who — if you’ll pardon the play on the track title — really knows how to “Blow The Roof.” He’s best known for his 2011 single “Bass Cannon,” which I used as my alarm clock for quite some time. And I suspect this latest offering is going to become my new start to the day. It’s one of those tracks that will definitely “Blow The Roof” — sorry, had to go there again — off just about any club. Young Joshua’s career is in, you could say, a state of “Flux” — OK, I’ll stop now — and I am officially a fan!

Gosia’s Track of the Day: W&W and Ummet Ozcan, “The Code”

February 15th, 2013

W&W and Ummet Ozcan – The Code: BUY IT ON BEATPORT

Can’t deny it: I am quite the fan of W&W — I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by any of their productions or mixes; they have a strong style that’s all their own. Ummet Ozcan, meanwhile, is an artist who sparks ever greater interest the more I hear of him. This new collaboration starts decently enough, and takes an absolutely beatific turn around the two-minute mark. The shift in the harmonic tide sent a jolt through my entire body, making me a slave to the rhythm. Not hard to crack this “Code”; the message, simply, is: DANCE!
