Our Channels At long last, a bona fide reality check for Grandmother! This time, the social worker who visited Tuesday and Thursday laid down the law in no uncertain terms: cough up the mucus or get hospitalized in a matter of days for double pneumonia. And this time (1) the visits are fewer and farther in between, and (2) once she’s in, she goes directly to the old folks home — do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
So far, she’s listening. Granted, I don’t think her water intake has changed all that much. And her continuous loud and extremely short breaths means she’s breathing like a steam engine. But she’s taking her pills.
The next few visits are going to be key. She can’t afford to ignore the warning signs anymore. Any more trouble and she won’t be coming back home — ever again.
