Electronic Nation is already stoking the anticipation, dropping teasers and hints. Yesterday came the tweet “Are you ready for tomorrow?” Well, tomorrow is here, and — drum roll, please! — RICHIE HAWTIN AND TIËSTO are the first two artists confirmed for Digital Dreams 2013.

I can still remember the feeling I got when was first introduced to the sounds of Tiësto back in high school. The track that stole my heart was the classic “Traffic” – I still get goose bumps when I play it today. I’ve been a loyal fan since then, but have tended to favour the Dutch maestro’s earlier work over his more recent shift toward the mainstream. Or I did, until I came across these two tracks from 2010: “I Miss You” and “No Memory From Yesterday.” Both evoke that familiar shivery sensation that “Traffic” gave me years ago.
Let’s start with “I Miss You.” In its dulcet perfection, this melodious track is perfect for listening with headphones in the comfort of my own room, putting me in a euphoric, phantasmagorial trance state.
Then there’s “No Memory From Yesterday.” A more up-beat sound than “I Miss You” — but my body just can’t stay still when I hear this music. It’s a classic track with a catchy rhythm, one of those unforgettable, sweetly harmonious pieces of music that lingers in the corners of your mind.
I have to recommend these two tracks to any confirmed EDM enthusiast. After 15-plus years on the scene, Tiësto has established himself beyond doubt as a true cognoscente of the EDM world. It’s easy to take potshots at arena-filling superstar DJs, but these big players have a unifying effect on our whole community. We should be thankful every day for major artists, like Tiësto, who bring us all together as one big EDM family.

Sorry if posting has been light this week. Sometimes life happens — but not to worry, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming soon enough. Until then, I figured you’d want to check out the newly unveiled visuals from Tiësto and Wolfgang Gartner. This has bpm:tv Viewer Top 10 written all over it, no?
Be good to each other; I’ll be back soon enough bringing you all the freshest new soundz.
Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to post this track! Released towards the end of WMC, it’s a massive banger from a legend and a soon-to-be-legend. I’m talking, of course, about Tiësto and Wolfgang Gartner, whom followers of this blog will recall shared a stage last year at Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum. (Check out the review HERE.) Together, they’ve dropped “We Own The Night,” featuring vocals by Luciana. Tracks like this aren’t meant to be described — they’re meant to be shared. So allow me to share with you an instant classic courtesy of three artists the whole bpm Nation knows and loves.
The eve of Miami Music Week, and you always knew these sweets were going to be something special — so sit back my friend, because it’s about to get a little hectic. Got some exclusive brand new cuts here from big names and no-names, major players and underground movers. This time of year you can’t help but smile. Suddenly it feels like springtime outside, and that calls for a toast. Coincidentally it’s also St. Paddy’s Day this weekend — which means, for those who can’t make the trip to sunny Florida, there are green beverages to take the pain away.
Enough chit chat. Let’s get in to it — with Tiësto remixing Canada’s own Autoerotique! This is incredibly huge: biggest, baddest Tiësto tune since “Strings.” Yeah, I said it!
How many times can a song be remixed? At least one more, apparently. This take on Lana Del Rey‘s “Blue Jeans” has surpassed Kris Menace‘s mix as my fave. And wow — there is no label with more momentum than Bromance Records right now.
Iy-yi-yi … not gonna lie, I didn’t know much about Delta Heavy until about 27 hours ago, when this dropped. This is the kind of dubstep I love: not just smashing your face in, but doing it with a melodic touch. Enjoy!!!
Diplo is everywhere this week. Check out the new visuals for “Express Yourself.”
Swedish House Mafia are superheros. Not gonna lie — this video is pretty dope.
This, of course, is only the tip of the iceberg — many more songs will be released throughout the week. Be sure to check in every day, as this is the first place all those new tracks will be posted……xx
Two of the bigger names in dance music have new material out this week — headline news for sure. Tiësto is bizzack with a banger, just in time for the Ultra Music Festival. The track, “Chasing Summers,” has the sound we’re growing accustomed to hearing from Tiësto: very uptempo, around the 126-130 bpm mark, with heavy doses of electro funk and bass. I’m a fan of this one, and with all the the Tiësto addicts out there, I’m pretty sure I won’t be alone.
Then there’s Swedish House Mafia, a group that seems larger than life in the EDM world. They’ve been lacking a truly major hit since teaming up with Antidote, but this track hits the spot: classic and heavy at the beginning, only to morph into a big-room monster somewhere around the midway point. To be honest, when I listen to the Mafia it’s Axwell who usually dominates the sound but this release really balances all the contributions of all three in a unique way, and for that I applaud them.
Chris Lake last night at Maison Mercer, Zeds Dead tonight at Kool Haus. I think this weekend is taken care of quite nicely.
However, there’s one event that needs to be highlighted specially. Tonight, Wrongbar plays host to the third annual Producing For Presents EP release party. This event is the reason the Faceless management team, Embrace Presents and all these Toronto artists are the cream of the crop in class and talent. For three years, some of the best local DJs have been hitting the studio to create some gems on behalf of the less fortunate. It will be a warm atmosphere with some rich tuneage. John Roman, Poupon, Gold ‘n’ Grams, Prince Club and Meech will all be out, so be sure to pop in and check the event. An automatic place on Santa’s Nice list for those who attend.

On to the Sweets….
My Favourite track off the PFP3 EP, VLSONN keeps it slanted and crisp with DX707 … boogie!
SOFI has a cult-like following. In some camps she’s a prodigy and the scond coming. In some other camps she’s not so well known. I feel she has what it takes to go to the next level — and songs like this are helping.
bpm Nation loves them some Tiësto. So this will be the biggest track to grab this week, as he takes on a classic. This tune will self destruct in five seconds!
If you know me then you know I love Kris Menace. Whether it’s him, BlackVan or his newest creation Stars on 33, the Menace man gets it done. With a litttle help from Lawrence Tompson and Radical Peterson this is “Keep on Dancing”!
The visuals are available for Brodinski‘s smash “Let The Beat Control Your Body.” The teaser to the release of the Bromance EP makes producing bangers with Gesaffelstein look so effortless. It’s incredible to think how big this song could end up being.
Jonas Rathsman‘s “Tobago” has been a song that I play once a day. It lifts your spirit in a subtle way without you really knowing. He shot a perfect video to match the song: laid back on the islands. Classic.
If it ain’t broke … “Loca People” was everyone’s guilty pleasure it came out. Well, we’re back for round two, as audio porn meets meets visual guilt. Yeah, I watched it twice. OK, three times.
And that’s your sweets for this week. See you guys at the shows……………………….xx
A quick little post for you today. The Porter Robinson camp has created a quick little mini-documentary on the fast and furious life of the prodigy.
It’s been amazing to see the success this current crop of DJs have achieved in such a short period of time. Porter has been around for maybe two years, and the kid — he has yet to hit 20 — is already in high demand. A true inspiration to DJ’s and producers worldwide.
He’s also a prime example of the North American Revolution. These young gunz (Skrillex, Dillon Francis, The Killabits, Wolfgang Gartner, A-Trak, Zeds Dead) are taking over the scene and absolutely making the best music out there. This video shows the whirlwind life that they lead — and to be honest, if you’re easily made jealous, don’t press play. This guy is living it up right now, and when he produces songs like “100% In The Bitch,” you can easily see why.
Monday came and passed. You went to www.bpmtv.com hoping, praying … needing your Monday Mash, and there was nothing there for you. For that I apologize. All I can do is give you a bonus Wednesday batch of goodies to help get you to Friday. So instead of wasting your time talking nonsense, I’ll start filling your goodie bag!
The Session
More and more, I’m beginning to love that smooth electronic sound. For a minute it was all heavy drums and kicks from the dubstep region. But now I’m feeling tracks like these. What you think? I think it’s free!
That dubstep sound I just said was going away? Here’s a new one, lol. Of course it’s not going anywhere soon, and I don’t think many of us want it to go anywhere. This track is a great remix. Great because the original was already a banger and Jaybird just intensified it.
For a long time, people questioned Steve Aoki’s production values. His stage presence was undeniable, but his work in the studio left questions to be answered. Over the past two years, though, he has really stepped it up and improved on so many levels. Now he’s regarded as the ideal person to collaborate with. This one should be very big very soon!
And last but not least: I have just started following Dan Clare and it’s evident that the kid has a lot of talent. With smooth transitions and an ear for the crowd, he’s destined to be here for a while. This video is hawt! Follow him HERE.
