Here’s how Toronto’s BEATFACE introduce themselves in their bio: “Take two high school friends. Challenge them to step out of their musical comfort zones, providing them with only a keyboard, a voice and a couple of laptops. Then, throw in a drummer. You’ll end up with BEATFACE, Toronto’s urban rock & roll band (without guitars).” Founded in 2006, this inventive three-piece (singer Paul, producer Book and drummer Jonny) seamlessly meld live drums and electronics to fashion a sound at once beatwise and poppishly accessible. Their musical adventurousness is evident both in their original material (showcased to impressive effect on last year’s debut EP Amy) and in their choice of covers (AC/DC, Metallica). bpm:tv’s Live Sessions Canada captures them doing what they do best for an appreciative hometown crowd.
